Cleaning and Caring for Toys and Teethers

Babies put everything in their mouth. From soft cloth blankets to silicone teething rings that offer relief for sore gums: chewing is the primary way your little one learns about the world. Because toys travel everywhere and drop on the floor frequently, proper cleaning is essential.
How do you keep baby toys hygienic without ruining the material or leaving toxic soap residues? Here is what works best for every material and how to prevent hidden mold.
A baby's immune system is still developing during the first year, making them more vulnerable to common germs and viruses than adults.
When a teether drops on the floor, travels in the stroller, or gets handled by other children, saliva and dirt cling to the surface. Without regular rinsing, a sticky layer of bacteria forms. Quick washes help protect against tummy aches, thrush, and common colds.
Different materials handle heat and water differently:
Silicone is by far the cleanest and easiest material for teething toys. Because it is non-porous, bacteria cannot penetrate inside. Here is the easiest routine:
Did your baby enjoy their baby remote control Torino or teether? Rinse under warm water. A drop of mild, fragrance-free soap quickly removes saliva. Always rinse well with clean water so no soap film remains.
Bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil. Drop the clean silicone toy in for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove with clean tongs and let it cool on a clean towel. Done: all germs are gone.
Short on time? Place your silicone toys on the top rack of the dishwasher on a normal cycle. High water temperatures sanitize effectively.
Many traditional bath and teething toys have a small squeaker hole on the bottom. During bath time and chewing, moisture gets inside. Because the interior stays dark and damp, dangerous black mold builds up within weeks.
At Broemba, all our teethers, such as the baby remote control Bern, are molded as solid single pieces. With no seams, holes, or hollow cores, water can never get trapped inside.
